Front Range Mountain Communities Growing in Popularity
As the real estate market has continued to recover, many front range mountain communities lagged behind. That no longer appears to be the case as mountain communities are seeing increased demand for several key reasons.
As more and more people move to Colorado (101,000 people in the past year according to the most recent data), there are fewer affordable options for families in the metro area. People are beginning to expand their search to include the front range mountain communities because the price point is more affordable, the pace of life slower, and the open space is appealing.

We are also seeing increased demand for second homes as more people are looking for mountain escapes without having to use the I 70 Mountain corridor. On a typical Sunday afternoon, traffic jams are common on I 70 from Silverthorne to Idaho Springs, leaving many skiers and travelers frustrated at the ever volume of vehicles. Many of the front range communities offer secondary road options which keeps commutes predictable and mountain escapes manageable.
In Coal Creek Canyon just north and West of Golden, over 118 homes sold in the past year. With improving shopping options being build at the bottom of 72 and highway 93, these numbers should continue to rise. Blackhawk and Golden are all seeing increasing demand in their mountain communities as well. 19 homes sold in the Dory Lakes and Missouri Lakes subdivisions this year, with other communities near the 46/119 intersection seeing over 23 homes sold and counting. With the national forest steps away, these communities are becoming a great alternative with a smooth and beautiful commute down Golden Gate Canyon Road to Golden.
